Oriental Bay

Wellington's very own city beach always comes up with the goods on a summer's day. Golden sands and shallow, often calm water means that togs and a towel are essential for every visit. On calm days check out the Carter fountain out in the water, which can shoot water up to 16m into the air!

Don't forget to pack your bucket and spade to dig a trench or build a sandcastle! There's also a neat, wide walkway at the back of Oriental Beach leading up to Freyberg Beach which is perfect for scooting or biking.
